Wow! This drawing about giftedness has gone completely viral, it is shared massively on instagram and Facebook. I come across it in all kinds of groups and on all kinds of accounts.
How can this be? Because there are so many misunderstandings about giftedness, and it is therefore very difficult for many parents with an Hb child to communicate about it. That is why they are so happy with this visual.
On average, there is one gifted child in every class. It is very difficult to spot these children, because they are not always the ones with the highest Cito scores and the best reports. Because often they underperform due to boredom and show behaviour that is not fun. So they consistently get too little challenge. Parents who recognise this usually have to raise it at school themselves. Nothing is taught about giftedness at secondary school.
A lot of parents feel understood by this visual, and using this discussion board, dare to have an easier conversation at school to ask for more challenge for their child. It creates clarity. It is clear, uncluttered, simple.
Our brain processes pictures much faster than text, images attract more attention and the message is remembered much, much better.
This visual was developed in consultation with three HB experts and a remedial educationalist specialising in giftedness.
